Milestones

The West African Genetic Medicine Centre (WAGMC) under the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) impact project, has two (2) milestones under the Disbursement linked Indicator 4.3 (DLI 4.3): Quality of Education and Research – Infrastructure. The first being the purchase and installation of an Advanced Research and Genetics Training Equipment and second being the construction of the WAGMC Building complex to be achieved before the end of the project.

Milestone 1 - DLI 4.3.1: NextSeq Next Generation Sequencing System 550
The procurement and installation of the NextSeq 550 advanced Genetics technology system for DNA sequencing and array will improve research and learning in human and medical genetics in the University and across the continent.

Milestone 2: DLI 4.3.2: New WAGMC Building Complex
The WAGMC Building Complex will house various functional rooms including classrooms, seminar rooms, a boardroom, laboratories, cold room, vivarium, collaboration room, break room, canteen/cafeteria, washrooms, student common room, faculty common room and offices. The building complex will also showcase a genetic themed park at the forecourt as part of the university's green project.

Milestone 2: DLI 4.3.2: New WAGMC Building Complex
The WAGMC Building Complex will house various functional rooms including classrooms, seminar rooms, a boardroom, laboratories, cold room, vivarium, collaboration room, break room, canteen/cafeteria, washrooms, student common room, faculty common room and offices. The building complex will also showcase a genetic themed park at the forecourt as part of the university’s green project.

Milestone 4: DLI 7.5: Internet Network Expansion
Internet network has been expanded to ensure 100% broadband/wi-fi coverage on the Legon and Korle-Bu campuses of the University. Core, Distribution Switches and Access Points have been procured to extend the Wi-Fi footprint.
